Cook food in a kitchen. The food goes in a pot, the pot goes on, and a dish comes out.
cook
cook
Show the kitchen, the pot, the method, the heat and the pans you cook with.
cook add
cook add <food>
cook add <food>, <food>
cook add all
Put food from your pack in the pot. A pot holds only so much. Say how it is cut after the name: whole, chopped or minced.
Example: cook add tuber minced
A whole joint comes tender in a slow cook and stays raw in the middle in a fast one. Minced food gives up its flavor fast and turns to mush in a long cook.
cook remove
cook remove <food>
cook remove all
Take food back out of the pot before it goes on.
cook technique
cook technique
cook technique <method>
List the methods, or choose one for the next pot. Each method takes its own time, and some need something in the pot. A sear, a fry and a roast need fat or oil. A braise needs some liquid. A cure needs plenty of salt. A pickle needs something sour, like vinegar, and a liquid to sit in.
Some methods need gear too. A bake needs an oven, a smoke needs a smoker, and a roast needs an oven or a grill.
Two methods make a drink. A steep puts hot water or milk over leaves, beans, herbs or cocoa, for coffee, tea, herbal tea or hot chocolate, and needs some liquid. A press squeezes fruit into juice with no fire. A drink is not plated. It is drunk a cup at a time, or poured into a cup or bottle with fill, and a venue can stock it.
cook heat
cook heat <low/medium/high>
cook heat ideal
Set how hot the fire runs. Each method wants a heat. A fire that is too hot scorches the food, and one that is too cool leaves the middle raw. A cure, a pickle and a cold plate use no fire.
cook taste
cook taste
Taste the pot. This works before the pot goes on, and shows how the dish would come out with the method, the heat and the pans you have. A better cook tastes more.
cook start
cook start
cook start all
Put the pot on. The food is used up. Add all to put in everything you carry first. If the pot is going to lack something, you are told.
cook adjust
cook adjust <food>
cook season <seasoning>
While the pot is on, put in a liquid, fat or oil, something sour, or a seasoning to fix what the taste shows is wrong. Each one adds to the cooking time, and a pot takes only a few. A seasoning put in late smells brighter and does not keep as well.
cook claim
cook claim
Collect the finished dish. Take it soon after it is done. A dish left on the heat loses its best, and one left long enough is set out on the counter for you. A cure, a pickle and a cold plate wait without harm.
cook finish
cook finish <sour/fat/herb>
Give a newly claimed dish a last touch, using a matching ingredient you carry: something sour, like vinegar or fruit, fat or oil, or fresh herbs and spice. Then use finish <dish> to name and describe it.
cook cancel
cook cancel
cook cancel confirm
Before the pot is on, cook cancel hands the food back. After, it asks first, and cook cancel confirm throws the pot out.
cook gear
cook gear
Show what you cook with. A wok, a clay pot, a steamer and a grill are pans you carry from kitchen to kitchen, and a better made one helps more. An oven and a smoker are built into a kitchen. A pan helps the methods it suits, and only the best one for a method counts.
cook journal
cook journal
List the dishes you have made and the best of each. A dish you have made many times, and made well, comes out a little better.
cook save
cook save <name>
cook recipes
cook recipe <name>
cook forget <name>
Save the last dish you cooked as a recipe, list your recipes, cook one again from what you carry, or forget one. A recipe keeps the food, the cuts, the method and the heat. It can be cooked in any kitchen with the pans it needs.
cook card
cook card <name>
cook learn <card>
Write a recipe on a card you can give, lend or sell, and learn the recipe on a card you carry. A card is not used up.
cook invite
cook invite <person>
cook dismiss <person>
Let someone here help with your pot. They can add food, fix the pot and taste it. Only you start the pot and collect the dish. Cooking together goes quicker and the dish comes out a little better.
plate
plate <dish>
plate <dish> for <person>
Take one portion off a dish you carry or one standing in the room, and plate it for yourself or for someone else. A plate is eaten in a few bites. A dish that has gone off cannot be plated.
Eating the same dish again and again does less for you each time. A change of food does you more good.
