The Collective
The Kolkhos is the agricultural collective that runs much of Suburba's food production: its fungal beds, hydroponics, fish tanks, and protein vats.
Its farms are worked in common. Meals are usually eaten in huge mess halls, and children grow up among assemblies, work rotas, slogans, arguments, and revolutionary songs. There are elected committees but few permanent offices, and outsiders go half mad trying to work out who actually leads and who they can negotiate with.
Every Member a Fighter
There is little difference between farmer, technician, and fighter. Every member gives what they can, and the collective looks after its own in return. That goes for defence too. The Kolkhos has no professional security force. Able members serve regular militia rotations, and the experienced ones handle training, the weapons stores, and the response when trouble comes. One alarm can turn an ordinary shift of farmers into an organised armed force within minutes.
The Kolkhos rarely looks for influence beyond its own territory. But it controls so much of Suburba's food that neither the Coterie nor its neighbours can afford to treat it as harmless.
