Hauling

In the game: help hauling Also haul drag unhaul release haul

Carry a heavy load or a helpless body, alone or as a team.

haul

haul <load>

Lift and carry a heavy object, a corpse, or someone who cannot move on their own. Someone who can move is hauled only if they trust you to: they use @trust <you> to haul. If others already have hold of it, you join them, up to four pairs of hands. The first to take hold is at the front: when they walk, the whole team walks with them, and everyone nearby sees the team go by with its load.

haul

Say what you are holding, who holds it with you, and how the weight feels.

drag

drag <load>

Pull a load along the ground instead of carrying it. One person can drag what takes several to carry, but it is slow and tiring, and a person dragged can get scraped. Two people can drag one load.

unhaul

unhaul

Let go. At the front, you set the load down and everyone lets go of it. Anywhere else, only you let go and the others keep hold. Alias: release haul.

Carts

lay <patient> on <cart>

Put a person or a body on a handcart, a gurney or a bed with casters. haul <cart> then pushes it with them on it. To get a body off, haul it and then unhaul.

Weight

Strength decides what you can lift, less whatever you already carry. A team's strength adds up. A load too heavy for the team does not move: someone else has to take hold before it goes anywhere. Wheels under a load, such as casters on a piece of furniture, take most of its weight off the team. Every step costs each of you stamina, and fitness makes it cheaper. Once your stamina is gone you can hold on, but you add no strength until you rest.

Losing hold

You let go when you fight, when you are grabbed, or when you pass out or fall asleep. If the one at the front lets go, the next in line takes the front. When a person you carry comes to, you let go of them, unless they trust every one of you to haul them. A person who trusts you can walk away at any time, and you let go as they go. A body that dies in your hands stays in them.

You cannot sneak with a load, and nobody can pick up a load that a team has hold of. Carrying a load into a vehicle sets it down there.

Grapples

If you hold a body that cannot fight back and walk away from a fight with it, you drag it instead.
