New here? Start with this: the handful of commands you need in your first hour.

Welcome to Underspire. You do not need to learn everything at once. The commands below get you looking around, talking, dressed, and moving. When you want more, every topic here points to a fuller one.

Two Kinds of Command

Commands that start with @ are usually things you, the player, do: settings, your character sheet, your description. Commands without it are things your character does in the world, like look, say, or get.

To read the syntax lines in help, such as get <object>, see help syntax.

Help

help
help <topic>
help <topic>/<section>

help lists every topic by category. You can also type a command word, like help wear, to land on the topic that explains it.

The Tutorial

@newbie
@newbie next
@newbie finish

@newbie takes you into a dream: a private practice space where you try every basic command for real, with Saint Wren as your guide. Nothing you do there reaches the game. The tutorial moves on as soon as you do what each step asks; @newbie shows the current step again, and @newbie next moves on from a step that is only reading.

A new character starts there at their first login. That is where you make your starting clothes and get your handset. The tutorial waits while you design your clothes, and moves on once every clothing token is used, or sooner with @newbie next. You can take the tutorial again any time with @newbie; it brings you back to where you were.

Your First Minutes

When the dream ends, you wake in the Ixion capsule hotel. If you are in a sleep capsule, type leave to step out; sleep puts you back in. Near the capsules is a lost and found bin: rummage lost and found a few times to pick up basic clothes and some cash. See help lost and found and help capsule hotel.

Check what you carry with inventory, and put clothes on with wear <clothing>. See help inventory.

Look Around

look
look <target>

See the room, or look at a person or thing. See help looking.

Move

Type an exit name to walk through it, like north or just n. See help movement.

Talk and Act

say <message>
.<what you do>

say speaks out loud. A line starting with a dot is a pose: write what you do in the first person and the game handles the rest. For example, if your name is Sol, .wave at the bartender. shows everyone else "Sol waves at the bartender." See help roleplaying.

Names

At first, people show up as short descriptions, like "a willowy woman". When someone tells you their name, remember it with recog willowy as Mara. See help recognition.

Your Character

@stats
@setdesc <text>
@sdesc

Check your character sheet, and set how others see you. You earn experience by roleplaying with other people, and spend it with @xp. See help description and help character progression.

Money

count cash shows the money on you. Shops use list and buy. See help economy.

Making Things

prospect lists what you can gather or scavenge where you stand. gather <source> or scavenge <source> works one. Crafting stations mostly work the same way: load materials, start the work, then claim the result. See help survival, help scavenging, help crafting, help foundry, help weaponsmithing, and help alchemy.

Stay Alive

Fights are fast, and dying costs a lot. Only start a fight you can get out of. Do not go up to the surface until you know the game, and do not go alone. See help combat, help the surface, and help splintering.

Getting Help

xgame <question> asks other players a gameplay question. @request <topic> = <details> asks staff. @bug reports a bug. See help channels and help tickets.

Leaving

quit disconnects you. To log out somewhere private, see help capsule hotel.

To learn the world your character lives in, start with help deshret and help life in deshret.
