Network Scanner

In the game: help network scanner Also scanner network trace

Find the Nous address of where you stand, or of a device near you.

trace

trace
trace <device>
trace crowd

Hold the scanner in your hands. trace shows the room's access point, and
trace <device> shows the address of a networked device you carry or that
stands in the room.

A scan takes 12 to 24 seconds, faster with more skill. Keep the scanner in
your hands and stay in the
room until it finishes. If the scan cuts off, the scanner still has to clear
before it will scan again.

If you scan from hiding, your stealth skill may keep you hidden for the first
stages. The last stage always gives you away.

In a busy public place, trace crowd picks out a device somebody in the crowd
is carrying and shows its name and address. The address is valid for about an
hour. Someone in Abzu can route to it, beat its ICE and run exec exfil.exe <file>
(The device tells you what file name you need to grab. Better devices need
chmod.exe first). The file copy makes a chip that a data broker in Nous will
buy, and a device only gives up one copy. A crowd that catches you scanning will
likely notice, just like when you use pickpocket crowd. You can only hold one of
these addresses at a time, and a new scan replaces the old one. After a scan that
finds a device, you have to wait about 20 minutes before you can trace another crowd.
(Maybe you could sell the data to another player?)

An address looks like this:

abzu://<router>/<access point>/<device>

It names the router that serves the room, so you know which router to
reach in Nous.

In Nous, trace is a Sprite order (see help trace).
